Green Party of Alaska’s General Assembly Meeting on January 26, 2021

The Green Party of Alaska (GPAK) met on Zoom on Tuesday and discussed the misinformation around hemp, the possibility of growing it in Alaska and creating a new industry around the plant. As former Kotzebue City Council member Tommy Fields has stated “all plants are here for a reason.” And there’s certainly more to hemp than the ever popular marijuana. For nearly a century a misinformation campaign has lead people to forget that The Founding Fathers of this country used hemp for their paper products and for their clothes. The GPAK is looking to be involved in Hemp Fest, an annual three day festival that takes place during the summer solstice. This Sunday The GPAK is holding event on Zoom called Greens On Energy, an event focusing on the options and opportunities for the rapid transition to a 100% renewable future for Alaska. Energy has been important to Alaska for 60 years and the fact is The World is looking to move past energy systems based on coal and oil. Oil is becoming antiquated

Co-Chair Hadley's thoughts The GPAK getting kicked out of The GPUS

I’ll admit I was upset at yesterday’s news that we were indeed kicked out of federation that is The Green Party of The United States. I understand people are upset that we put Jesse Ventura on the ballot instead of Howie Hawkins but the fact is Hawkins even without Alaska was a non-factor in the general election; it would be a joke to even think of him as a spoiler. Did he fail because Alaska went rouge and he didn’t obtain an extra thousand votes? Absolutely not! He failed because following the 2016 election The Green Party was unable to build its base. What does this mean for Alaska that this happened? Nothing because The Green Party of The United States is not a viable third party in its current state. Talk to most people on the street about The Green Party and most of them are surprised something like that exists and wonder what being Green actually means. But surely the relationship between The GPUS and The GPAK was important right? Well no. I say this as someone who has given ple

Alaska’s Trojan War

Alaskan politics has a new invasive species, the Hawkins 2024 campaign. An authoritarian attempt to take over an active state Green Party (one of the oldest) by a radical faction (an invasive species of political puritans). Actors who stand on pillars of decentralization, grassroots activism, and the value of peace to call us terrorist and attempt to bar me personally from all political action for the next decade. These sycophants have come to believe it is their right and duty to subvert the existing party leadership, believing they can install doppelgangers to do the job they could not. In August of 2020, the Green Party of Alaska was presented with a difficult decision. The massively viewed Earth Day forum was the last time we heard from the Hawkins campaign until they paid a consultant to buy ballot access. We graciously accepted the gift, believing the choice was ours (and legally it was). However, when we sought the campaigns assistance to reach more green voters in Alaska to see

Complaint against Andrea Merida Cuéllar

It is with deep regret that we are compelled to lodge this complaint against Andrea Merida Cuéllar, manager for the Howie Hawkins 2020 Campaign and former chair of the Green Party United States (GPUS) Accreditation committee. The same committee advancing proposal 1030 to de-affiliate the Green Party Alaska (GPAK) from the national federation. This proposal is clearly retaliation against the members of the GPAK for not advancing Howie Hawkins as the nominee for POTUS in Alaska during the 2020 election cycle There is so much more here and there were many more people involved in this unfortunate incident, however, in the interests of peace to the body politics, caught in the middle of a public war of words on the national listserv, we believe it best to focus on the key issues and follow the factual evidence in making this statement. Our hope is that this will be sufficient to dispose of proposal 1030 and for the National Committee to take corrective actions internally as is in the best i

Written summery of the 12/1/2020 General Assembly

The Green Party of Alaska (GPAK) forwarded two motions for its members to vote on in its weekly assembly meeting on Zoom. The first motion was for the party to sign The Leap Manifesto, a document written in 2015 in Toronto. The Manifesto calls for “respecting the inherent rights and title of the original caretakers of this land. Indigenous communities have been at the forefront of protecting rivers, coasts, forests and lands from out-of-control industrial activity.” This statement fits the party’s drive to face the problems that pelages rural and Alaska natives. We believe joining an effort like this would set a great example for the rest of The Green Party. The motion was passed unanimously. Other things called for in this manifesto fit very well with what The GPAK promotes, with them wanting UBI while Alaska already has a form of that with our annual PFDs. And of course the need to restructure our economies and food production. It’s easy to fall in the trap of simply talking about
