Co-Chair Hadley's thoughts The GPAK getting kicked out of The GPUS

I’ll admit I was upset at yesterday’s news that we were indeed kicked out of federation that is The Green Party of The United States. I understand people are upset that we put Jesse Ventura on the ballot instead of Howie Hawkins but the fact is Hawkins even without Alaska was a non-factor in the general election; it would be a joke to even think of him as a spoiler. Did he fail because Alaska went rouge and he didn’t obtain an extra thousand votes? Absolutely not! He failed because following the 2016 election The Green Party was unable to build its base.

What does this mean for Alaska that this happened? Nothing because The Green Party of The United States is not a viable third party in its current state. Talk to most people on the street about The Green Party and most of them are surprised something like that exists and wonder what being Green actually means. But surely the relationship between The GPUS and The GPAK was important right? Well no. I say this as someone who has given plenty of money to The Green Party of The United States and it seems they just like to blow it getting people on the presidential ballot. Really would having Hawkins on the ballot start an important shift towards more people getting more involved in The Green Party? Evidence suggests otherwise.

With so many people apparently upset and our officer elections coming in April you’d figure they could easily take over the state party to make sure what happened never happens again and that these eco-socialists can have their agenda forefront. You’d think that and you’d be wrong. No these people have a loser mentality and decided not only are they going to kick The GPAK out of their clubhouse but they’re also going to start their own party instead. It’s the Bender meme come to life!

If The Green Party of The United States wants nothing to do with The Green Party of Alaska I’m going to ask them to simply keep out of Alaska and don’t waste everyone’s time with another Mountain Party or whatever name they’ll come up with. If they don’t want to do the work in taking lead of this party though a democratic process they simply do not belong in politics. I think it would benefit everyone if The Green Party of Alaska can concentrate on pushing green policies at the local level and maybe win a couple of elections. We want to do some important work without them getting in our way.

With officer elections coming in April I encourage all Greens in Alaska to sign up to be able to run and vote. You can do that here:

  1. Thanks for sharing your perspective on this . Totally agree that it was needlessly hostile to kick GPAK out instead of just recruiting Alaskans to run and participate in the party.
